Guitar Lessons

My approach to guitar teaching reflects how I myself learned the guitar, which was in an informal and very practical way. I tend to go by ear and don’t use much written music. I aim to get my students playing and enjoying the guitar as soon as possible by breaking the music down into bite-sized chunks. Most of the actual lesson time is spent in discussion and demonstration. I then provide custom walk-through videos (and guitar tab when appropriate) so that my students have everything they need to learn the music outside of the lessons. This method is very successful, and because many of my students are scattered across the UK, I have been teaching online, over videos calls, even prior to the pandemic.

I don’t require my students to commit to a set number of lessons and I am very flexible with dates and times in order to work around my students’ other commitments. So, if you are interested in lessons (beginners to advanced are all welcome), or are just curious and would like a chat, then please don’t hesitate to get in contact.

“I’ve just started learning guitar with Henry and he has been so patient with me. His knowledge of the guitar is superb and his style of teaching is methodical and insightful. I would recommend Henry to anyone” Alice Walters

“I’ve had lessons with Henry for a year and a half now. He’s an amazing guitarist and a passionate, patient and all-round lovely teacher! He got me fingerpicking in my first lesson and we’ve now covered a wide range of styles and even different tunings. His approach to teaching the guitar is centred on creativity and student-lead learning, far removed from the stuffy school music lesson format. Our guitar lessons have been a lifesaver during the various lockdowns especially. I couldn’t recommend him highly enough!” Pippa Barlow
